OCR A Level Physics revision notes

Notes for every section of the OCR Physics A specification, written the way the examiner wants to read it. Each module ends with definitions to learn word for word, calculation practice, 6-mark prose answers and a module test, and the past papers are right here too.

Exam boards: OCR (A) and Edexcel now. AQA to follow.

How each module works

Learn it section by section, then revise the whole module in four ways.

1 · Section pagesAn animation, the notes, free workbook pages and a video for each part of the spec.
2 · DefinitionsThe definitions the mark scheme wants, with a checker that tells you what you missed.
3 · CalculationsEvery equation in the module, rearranged and practised with units.
4 · 6-mark prose + past papersExtended answers with model responses, then the real papers with mark schemes.

Choose your module

Six modules, in the OCR specification order. Numbers in gold are the spec sections. Greyed-out pages are being written.

Year 12?The AS papers only test Modules 1 to 4, so they are perfect practice before Year 13.
Mark it properlyUse the mark scheme straight after, in a different colour pen. Every lost mark is a note to add.
Practise the 6-markersThe questions marked * are the 6-mark ones. Use the 6-mark prose pages above first.

QP = question paper · MS = mark scheme. Topic questions and older papers are on the OCR (A) past papers page.

Common questions

Which specification do these cover?

These pages follow OCR A Level Physics A (H556). Modules 1 to 4 are also the AS course (H156). Edexcel A Level pages are here, and AQA will follow.

Which past paper tests which module?

Paper 1 (Modelling physics) tests Modules 1, 2, 3 and 5. Paper 2 (Exploring physics) tests Modules 1, 2, 4 and 6. Paper 3 (Unified physics) tests all six. Every module card above says which papers it appears in, and the past papers are on this page.

Why are most of the pages greyed out?

The course is a work in progress. Every module is mapped out so you can see what’s coming, and each page goes live as soon as it’s written.

Are these revision notes free?

Yes. Every page is free to read with no sign-up, no email and no paywall.

What are the 6-mark prose questions?

OCR papers include 6-mark extended-answer questions, marked with an asterisk (*). They are marked on how complete and well linked your explanation is, not just on the right facts. Each module has practice questions with model answers so you can see how a full-mark answer is put together.
